Multi-faith ring of peace circles City Shul
Christian and Muslim members of local churches and mosques circled City Shul on November 1 in a ring of peace. Organizers wanted to show solidarity with the synagogue, which operates out of the Bloor Street United Church at Bloor and Huron streets, after a deadly attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. Residents balk at tall tower plan

Local residents got their first look at plans to renovate Bloor Street United Church late last month. The proposal calls for a 38-storey mixed-use building, a renovation, and partial demolition of the church, as well as a new promenade. Located at the corner of Bloor and Huron streets, the building is over a hundred years old. Read more
Kent Jackson, a member of the Bloor Street United Church congregation, noted that the archival photo we ran with this article did not match the cutline: “The church lost its steps and main entrance when it was truncated in 1927 to make way for the widening of Bloor Street West.” Read more
