In the 2006 election he received contributions from corporations and unions that do business with the school system, and I assume the same is true in 2010. He is running in conjunction with Mike Layton and a major political party machine in ward 19 and 20. Here’s his entire platform. Go on, click through that link and read it, then hit the Back button. That’s right: his entire platform is “coming soon”. If elected, he plans to do exactly nothing in the next four years. In all of his campaign materials, flyers, debates and every other interaction he has had with the public over the last few months, he has put forward exactly zero ideas about how to improve the Toronto District School Board or what he wants to do in the next four years. Ah, I take that back. He has expressed a desire to run for the chairmanship of the Board (an internal election among the 22 trustees). So he has expressed a desire for more power, but nothing – literally nothing – about how to use that power to effect good change. If elected, he’ll owe his job to the corporations, unions, and political party who supported him. He doesn’t live in the ward or have any children in the public schools – he’s got no stake in the system. He’s ethically challenged. […]
