Two of the development projects the Gleaner reported on last year have been completed and in their place seven new ones have started. The Gleaner is distributed between College Street, Dupont Street, Avenue Road and Christie Street and this year there are 17 development sites within those boundaries.

On September 8, Trustee Chris Moise held a community meeting to address the abrupt razing of the Palmerston Avenue Junior Public School. The school and the TDSB faced major criticism from the community over the action, especially by those who volunteered countless hours maintaining and planting the garden over the 20 years it had stood.

The improving pandemic situation has led to some of the parks that were locked up last year to be set free again. Huron Washington Parkette and Margaret Fairley Park have been restored to their former glory. But, neglect and lack of resources have persisted in others like Sally Bird Park and Euclid Avenue Parkette.

After months of lockdowns, revitalization was at the top of the agenda for the Palmerston Area Residents Association’s (PARA) annual general meeting on June 2. A sustainable and green neighbourhood was second on the agenda for the Association whose boundaries are Bloor, Bathurst, College and Grace.
