The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has signed a deal with a developer, Razor Management, which contemplates applying an artificial surface and winter dome over the Central Tech playing field. The current slate of school board trustees is at the end of their term of office. The newly elected trustees, together with the two city councillors for the area Mike Layton and Joe Cressy, wrote a letter urging the current board to hold off the decision since they felt that signing the deal was premature and was not a concept they supported. The Toronto District School Board voted against a proposal to install advertising-based television screens in its high schools last night.
If the proposal had passed, screens would have been installed in 66 schools, displaying advertising 30 per cent of the time for at least the next seven years. Read more

In Ward 20, Adam Vaughan easily won re-election with 74 per cent of the vote. Mike Yen, whose platform was very similar to Mayor-elect Rob Ford, and whose message of “Stop the War on Fun” resonated with local fraternities and bars, including the Brunswick House, came in a distant second with 3,601 votes. Dean Maher, Roman Polochansky and Ken Osadchuck picked up 6, 2, and 1 per cent of the vote, respectively. Read more
