New builds abound around the Annex

The construction of new residential towers has continued unabated in the Annex despite the pandemic. The Gleaner  is distributed to homes between College Street, Dupont Street, Avenue Road and Christie Street. Fourteen development sites, at various stages of completion, currently exist within these boundaries. With one confirmed exception – Mirvish Village – these are each condominium developments with high price tags. In the next one to three years the population of the Annex will increase considerably. Here is what to expect.

BIA infrastructure improvements, parkettes construction to begin in 2019

Big changes are coming to Bloor Street: new sidewalks, new water-mains, new trees in the ground, and four new parkettes. At the recent Bloor-Annex Business Improvement Association AGM, BIA chair (and publisher of this newspaper) Brian Burchell told local business and property owners that, after years of planning, the City of Toronto is confident that the Bloor St. Greening Initiative will come to fruition in the coming year.

TDSB candidates weigh in

Only four of the 13 candidates running for trustee in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Ward 10 — which includes city wards 11 and 13 — replied to our questions. We did not receive answers from Mahbubul Alam, Ted Crysler, Kate Frischkorn, Baquie Ghaza, Jooheon Lee, Aaron Macgregor, Chris Moise, Alamgir Muhammad, and David Oliver. We reached out to the candidates by phone and email, and gave them a week to provide answers, asking them to keep each answer to 100 words or less.

If it’s the first Sunday after Labour Day, it must be time for fun at the fair. On September 9 from noon to 6 p.m., residents of Harbord Village will be out in full force for music, socializing, and a silent auction at its annual fall fair in Margaret Fairley Park. Refreshments like burgers, soft drinks, and wine will be available for 50 cents to $5, depending on the item.
