According to Statistics Canada, from 2002 to 2016 the total amount of waste collected in Canada increased by 11 per cent, the equivalent of 3.5 million tonnes. Low and no waste grocery stores are a market-driven response to the trash problem, and they seem to be catching on. Read more

On December 22, police responded to a call from a residence in Harbord Village, where they found a woman suffering from severe head trauma. They immediately arrested a 29-year-old man named Colin Harnack, who was charged with second-degree murder. The woman, 51-year-old Julie Berman, was rushed to hospital. She succumbed to her injuries a short time later. Read more

The owner and the manager of a now-closed bar on College Street have been convicted of gang sexual assault and administering a stupefying drug to a 24-year-old woman in 2016. The bar where the incident took place was closed shortly after charges were laid. Read more
