HVRA lane-naming project leads to The Postman
In March of 2015 the Gleaner featured coverage of the pending play, The Postman, that was staged on neighbourhood porches in the summer of that year. The Harbord Village event commemorated the life and times of Albert Jackson, Canada’s first black postie. On the occasion of Canada Post issuing a stamp in Jackson’s honour, we are reprinting this article

“Foreground of Hart House and University College” is one of six pieces by Nicholas Hornyansky in the Art Museum at the University of Toronto. Hornyansky was a Canadian-Hungarian artist who moved to Canada in 1929. His work includes many local scenes, including Hart House, Convocation Hall, University College, and the Soldiers’ Tower. The Art Museum is made up of the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at Hart House, and the University of Toronto Art Centre at University College. It’s one of the largest gallery spaces for visual art exhibitions and programming in Toronto.

Tracy Gorman’s “In her eyes” studies the eyes of the women in her life. Gorman specializes in textile-based pieces, and put photos of eyes on a dress using synthetic photographic transfer paper. The installation was part of W-O-M-A-N, an all-woman exhibition about women in society at Spadina Musuem for Nuit Blanche Toronto on September 29. HÜSNA SARI/GLEANER NEWS
